The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an international public interest environmental organization with approximately 3 million members and supporters. The NRDC is dedicated to protecting the Earth's environment —the ecosystems on which people, plants and animals, and all living things depend. Since its founding in 1970, the environmental lawyers, scientists and experts of the NRDC have been working for clean water and air and healthy communities for the public. Through its scientific, economic and policy expertise, the NRDC works with local partners in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America to advance comprehensive environmental management and improvement. 

The NRDC has been working on environmental protection in China since the 1990s, with an office in Beijing and more than 40 members. As an advocate of advanced ideas, a promoter of practical solutions and a trusted professional partner, the NRDC promotes green, circular and low-carbon development in China, mainly through policy research, introduction and demonstration of best practices, and professional support. The NRDC is registered with the Beijing Public Security Bureau and has a Beijing Representative Office, with the ERCFPNFGA as its business authority. 

The NRDC's expert team actively cooperates and communicates with various parties, including National and Local Development and Reform Commissions, the ERCFPNFGA, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and other government departments and relevant subordinate research institutions. For example, the NRDC cooperates with academic and research institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Tongji University. It has aslo communicates with environmental public interest organizations such as the Friends of Nature, the Public Environment Research Center, the WWF, the Energy Foundation (China), and the Paulson Foundation.

NRDC自上个世纪九十年代起在中国开展环保工作，在北京设有办公室，现有成员40多名。作为先进理念的倡导者、实用解决方案的推介者和值得信赖的专业合作伙伴，NRDC主要通过开展政策研究，介绍和展示最佳实践，以及提供专业支持等方式，促进中国的绿色发展、循环发展和低碳发展。NRDC在北京市公安局注册并设立北京代表处，业务主管部门为国家林业和草原局。

NRDC的专家团队与各方积极开展合作与交流，其中包括：国家及地方发展和改革委员会、生态环境部、国家林业和草原局、住房和城乡建设部、科学技术部等政府部门及相关下属研究机构，清华大学、北京大学、中国政法大学、同济大学等学术科研机构，自然之友、公众环境研究中心、世界自然基金会、能源基金会（中国）、保尔森基金会等环保公益组织。
