On November 11, the Chinese Corner of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) was held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Co-sponsored by Vanke Foundation, C Team, Beijing Entrepreneur Environmental Protection Foundation and China Corporate Climate Action (CCCA), the meeting brought together people from government, enterprises, industry and think tanks to discuss how enterprises can seize opportunities and meet challenges through business and technological innovation under the dual-carbon goal.
Wang Shi, founder of Vanke Group and founder of C Team, pointed out in his speech, "It clearly feels that the scale of this year's COP27 is much bigger than that of last year. Entrepreneurs come here to tell their transformation stories to the world and learn from their peers." "In the past decade or so, Chinese entrepreneurs have changed their identities in the climate field -- from not knowing, to being deeply involved, and even to playing the role of leaders and leaders," he said.
In the process of quickly absorbing information and taking actions, many Chinese enterprises have realized that they need to take the initiative in green transformation, bring emission reduction plans and results to international occasions, and further promote more emission reduction actions through exchanges and communication, and even become the leader of global climate action. This is the ambition of Chinese companies, and this is what Chinese companies are doing.
Peter Bakker, President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, affirmed China's contribution to the world in his speech, "Anywhere in the world, we can demonstrate that China's emission reduction activities are making a positive contribution to the rest of the world. Only if we work together, only if China and the world cooperate in both directions, can we solve the problem of climate change."
Peter Bakker points out that there will be no real transformation until entrepreneurs and investors join forces to lead the decarbonisation of the economy. "There is an urgent need to create a transformation path, and when that path is created, the role of the business becomes clear and the action really begins."
Sun Lili, President of SEE Ecological Association of Alxa, attended the side meeting and delivered a speech on behalf of more than 900 business members. "Enterprises are the main force in tackling climate change, green development is the mainstream in the era of carbon neutrality," she said. "Under the current environment, enterprises with unswerving-commitment are the real industry leaders.
"Entrepreneur members from dozens of industries, such as real estate, finance, manufacturing, Internet, culture, fast retailing, logistics, medicine and so on, strive to effectively integrate entrepreneurship with environmental protection and public welfare, and practice corporate social responsibility."
At the side meeting, Chen Long, Chairman of the Sustainability Management Committee of Alibaba Group, Deyu, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vanke Group, Wu Bing, President of Beijing Hualong Business Aviation Co., LTD., Dai Zhen, founder and CEO of Nenglink, and Daniel Vannard, Chief Sustainability Officer of Syngenta Group, shared their insights on the relationship between business operation and green development.

Peter Bakker
