[Shanghai, China, June 28, 2022] Huawei Smart PV has been awarded the product Carbon Footprint Verification Opinion Statement issued by the British Standards Institution (BSI), which is the world's first carbon footprint statement of inverter products issued by BSI.
As the source of international standards, BSI is a special adviser to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and is recognized as the authoritative body that issued the world's first carbon footprint standard, PAS 2050. The award of this carbon footprint verification statement is a recognition of Huawei's ability to assess the full life cycle carbon footprint reporting of products, and the result of Huawei's efforts in reducing carbon emissions, increasing the share of renewable energy and promoting circular economy. Huawei's development concept of "green, low-carbon and sustainable" runs through the entire life cycle of inverter products. The recognition by the authoritative institution BSI will be of great significance to the establishment and development of the carbon footprint management system in the photovoltaic industry.
With the "3060" dual carbon target proposed, as the main force of renewable energy photovoltaic industry ushered in explosive growth. Although photovoltaic power generation is recognized as an important way to reduce carbon emissions, it does not mean that photovoltaic products are low-carbon. According to the "Clean Production Research Report of China's photovoltaic Industry", photovoltaic power stations can not achieve zero carbon emissions in 1.3 years in the 25-year life cycle. Therefore, the carbon footprint is crucial for the decarbonization of energy systems, and it is particularly critical to understand and manage the carbon footprint and carbon emission impact during the manufacturing process of each component of photovoltaic systems. In Europe and other countries and regions, carbon footprint is regarded as an important option for equipment bidding. Advanced green manufacturing enterprises with authoritative certification of carbon footprint can really help customers develop low-carbon and high-quality photovoltaic projects.
Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to strengthen low-carbon capacity building, develop more eco-friendly carbon footprint products with innovative technologies, accelerate carbon emission reduction for itself and its customers, and strive for a green and bright future in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
