London (September 1, 2020), 40 leading cement and concrete companies around the world jointly released the "Cement and Concrete Industry 2050 Climate Goal Statement", indicating that the global cement and concrete industry is committed to reducing the consumption of concrete, the most commonly used man-made material. carbon footprint and work towards a carbon neutral global concrete target by 2050.
Cao Jianglin, General Manager of
China National Building Materials Group:
The cement and concrete industry, as a vital part of the construction field, accounts for 13% of the global GDP, provides basic materials and supports the sustainable development of the global economy, society and environment.
The founding members of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) include China National Building Materials Group (CNBM), CEMEX Group (CEMEX), Old Castle Group (CRH), Dangote Group (Dangote), European Cement Group (Eurocement), HeidelbergCement, LafargeHolcim, Taiheiyo and Votorantim, among others.
As the largest cement and commercial concrete manufacturer in China, China National Building Material Group supports GCCA's "Cement and Concrete Industry 2050 Climate Goal Statement", and has been committed to sustainable development and addressing climate change, using 150 million tons of industrial waste to replace raw materials every year, All cement production lines are equipped with waste heat power generation systems, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 6 million tons per year. CNBM will continue its efforts to actively respond to the environmental challenges of climate change.
The "Statement", issued
by GCCA on behalf of all members, is the first time the industry has issued a
global joint statement on the future of concrete carbon neutrality, which is a
milestone for the industry. The "Statement" specifies the necessary
means to achieve carbon neutrality in concrete, including reducing or even
eliminating energy emissions, reducing emissions in the production process
through new technologies and carbon capture technologies, using concrete more
efficiently, recycling concrete building materials, and improving The ability
of concrete to absorb and store carbon from the atmosphere, etc.
Building on the long-term climate commitments and sustainability of GCCA members and affiliated organisations, the Statement sets a global vision for the long-term sustainability of concrete, an important building material that has shaped the modern world.
