Recently, CATL lithium iron phosphate energy storage products -- air-cooled products (1P20S series) and water-cooled products (1P52S series), successfully passed the cell, module and cabinet level UL9540A test. The UL9540A is currently recognized overseas as a challenging international safety test. At this point, CATL has become the first domestic lithium enterprise to pass the test, which will also lay a good foundation for the global development of our energy storage business.

Based on international high standards, strict safety

Energy storage system safety is a common concern in the industry, and relevant laws and regulations are gradually improving. The UL9540A test, developed by UL, is a widely accepted test method for assessing the spread of large-scale thermal runaway fire in battery energy storage systems. The authoritative industry codes in the United States, such as the United States Electrical Code (Section 706), the United States Residential Code (Section R327), the United States International Fire Code (Section Energy Storage) and the United States National Fire Service NFPA855 standard, all put forward the UL 9540A listing requirements for energy storage systems.

At present, 271Ah&280Ah cell, 1P20S electric box and 1P20S*17 electric cabinet, 280Ah1P52S electric box and 1P52S*8 electric cabinet have completed UL 9540A test, the test results prove that the fixed energy storage products of NDE Times have high safety grade.

Test Condition

Taking the electrical cabinet level test as an example, CATL air-cooled and water-cooled products performed well: under the condition of no fire protection system, the electrical cabinet only emitted smoke during the test, and there was no flame, splash or gas explosion; There is no heat diffusion between the cells, other electric boxes are not affected, and there is no damage to the trigger electric cabinet, the target electric cabinet and the wall; The maximum surface temperature, wall temperature and relative temperature rise of the target cabinet meet the requirements of NFPA 220 and NFPA 855.

From materials to products, ensure the safety of energy storage system throughout its life cycle

As energy infrastructure, energy storage security is related to power grid security and electricity safety. CATL's square aluminum shell energy storage cells have high structural strength, good air tightness, and a reliable life of more than 20 years; Its unique explosion-proof valve design can timely, directional pressure relief, balance the pressure inside and outside the cell. In addition, the system structure and electrical safety design (multistage break and quick plug) help prevent ignition sources.

测试条件

以电柜层级测试为例,宁德时代风冷和水冷产品均表现良好:在无消防系统的条件下,测试过程中电柜只会冒烟,并无火焰、飞溅物或气体爆炸;电芯间也无热扩散,其他电箱未受影响,触发电柜、目标电柜与墙面均无损害;目标电柜表面最高温、墙面温度及相对温升符合NFPA 220与NFPA 855要求。

从材料到产品 确保储能系统全生命周期安全
