Arcelor Mittal, the world's steel giant, has successfully built a 10MW solar power station on the roof of its factory in Belgium.
The project, funded by Belgian power company Eneco and built by Dutch renewable energy company Ecorus as EPC, uses 27,000 high-efficiency double-sided half panels supplied by Longi for a total of 10MW. The components are all installed on the roof of the ArcelorMittal steel plant, which covers 100,000 square metres, the equivalent of 150 standard football pitches. The project has been successfully connected to the grid in the third quarter of 2019, becoming the largest double-sided power generation project in Belgium.

The project could generate about 11MW of peak power and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 4,600 tonnes per year, equivalent to planting 230,000 trees. According to Ecorus, the project was completed at a "record" pace during construction, reaching up to three components per minute at peak installation times, with more than 180 people working simultaneously on the project site.

In recent years, Belgium has been developing into one of the key photovoltaic markets in Europe. Arcelor's Mittal Group is Europe and the world famous iron and steel company, the success of the photovoltaic power generation project, for the local traditional energy companies constantly set a benchmark to renewable energy transformation, the LONGi to efficient components and quick response to ensure that the project timely interconnection and reliable electricity, vigorously promote the European local scale development of renewable energy in Europe.
"The double-sided components supplied by LONGi for the roof of the ArcelorMittal plant have been tested and demonstrated excellent performance in terms of generating capacity and attenuation, which will result in lower KWH costs and higher generation returns for the customer. LONGi also hopes to use the power of photovoltaic to promote the optimization of energy structure in more parts of the world, and contribute to the realization of a green lifestyle for human beings." LONGi EMEA 2 region sales Director Wang Yan said.
Arcelor Mittal, headquartered in Luxembourg, is the largest company in Luxembourg and one of the world's largest steel groups. Arcelor Mittal supplies about 10% of the world's steel every year. The group has post-branch offices in more than 60 countries around the world.
