The government and relevant associations have been paying attention to carbon reduction in the building materials industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that it would speed up the implementation of carbon peaking in the industrial sector, and jointly formulate the implementation plan of carbon peaking in key industries such as non-ferrous metals, building materials, steel and petrochemicals. The commission has set up a working group on statistical accounting of carbon emissions, including the Association of Building Materials Industry. China Building Materials Federation deliberated and passed the Promotion Committee of Carbon Peaking and carbon Neutrality in the Building materials Industry, proposing to comprehensively improve the green and low-carbon development level of the building materials industry.


Statistics from the China Association of Building Energy Efficiency show that the total carbon emission of the whole building process in China accounts for 51.2% of the total carbon emission of the whole country, which runs through the whole life cycle of the building: production and transportation of building materials, construction, construction operation/maintenance/scrap and demolition, etc.

This also clearly points out the direction for the carbon reduction actions of building materials enterprises: under the multi-pronged approach in the fields of production, construction and construction operation, double domain coverage inside and outside the factory can be achieved.

Factory production, the whole chain of carbon reduction is promising

In early September last year, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the Notice on Promoting the Work Related to Peaking carbon Neutrality in National Eco-Industrial Demonstration Parks, which clearly required each park to carry out technological and management innovation to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction in the production process.

The production process in a broad sense includes materials, processing, storage, transportation and other links, among which the supply of high-quality raw materials, automatic workshop production, intelligent storage and logistics greatly reduce the carbon emissions caused by the production process, is an indispensable link in the carbon neutral chain, and is also a necessary topic for production enterprises to reduce carbon action.

Construction site, man-machine cooperation to reduce carbon efficiency

The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and 13 other departments jointly issued the Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Coordinated Development of Intelligent Construction and Building Industrialization, making it clear that the application of intelligent construction in all aspects of engineering construction should be increased by vigorously developing building industry as the carrier and digitization and intelligent upgrading as the driving force.

Experts from China Building Standard Design and Research Institute have also mentioned that the longevity of buildings is the biggest emission reduction.

工厂生产,全链减碳大有可为

生态环境部去年9月初下发的《关于推进国家生态工业示范园区碳达峰碳中和相关工作的通知》,明确要求各园区要开展技术革新、管理创新,实现生产过程节能减排。

广义的生产过程包含材料、加工、仓储、运输等多个环节,这其中的优质原料供应、自动化车间生产、智能化仓储物流等极大降低了生产过程导致的碳排放,是碳中和链条上不可缺少的一环,也是生产型企业减碳行动的必选题。
