Ingka, the parent company of IKEA Group, has announced plans to invest 58 million euros in offshore wind power development projects in Sweden to accelerate the group's sustainable transformation.

Renewable energy company OX2 has agreed to sell a 49% stake in a portfolio of up to 9GW of offshore wind projects to Ingka Group.

The three projects are Galatea-Galene, on the coast of Halland; Triton, on the coast of Skane; and Aurora, on the coast of Gotland and Oland.

Among these, Galatea-Galene and Triton projects have already submitted applications, while Aurora is in the early stages.

Once operational, the three projects have the potential to produce up to 38 TWh of electricity, equivalent to more than 25 per cent of Sweden's electricity consumption in 2021, according to OX2.

The transaction is subject to regular competitive merger filing requirements and is expected to close within two months.

OX2 expects to add 584 million SEk to its operating profit in the second half of the year once it is finally completed, and help it lift its full-year operating profit to just over 1 billion SEk.

Currently, OX2 has spent around SEK 200 million in development costs for the three projects.

Ingka Group, together with Commoz Real and KGAL, has recently acquired the remaining 20% interest in the Veja Mate wind farm offshore Germany from Siemens Financial Services.

"Global investment and commitment to renewable energy is being increased from 3 billion euros today to 6.5 billion euros by 2030," said Peter van der Poel, managing director of Ingka Investments.
