On November 3, the 2022 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO China Forum was held in Beijing. Under the theme of "Going Green Economy", the forum released the 2022 industrial case of "Sustainable Industrial Development Action in China". Mengniu Group was selected as the case for its outstanding performance in ESG work.

Mengniu was selected as the case set of "Sustainable Industrial Development Action in China", which was jointly initiated by the China Business Council of APEC and the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission. It aims to focus on green growth and digital economy, explore the best practices in the industry driven by science and technology innovation from a global perspective, and refine and share the Chinese model of sustainable development. We will explore effective paths for green economic recovery and growth. In the case selection, Mengniu's contribution and achievements in sustainable development have been highly recognized by relevant experts and scholars through years of intensive work in ESG.

In dealing with climate change, Mengniu practices a two-carbon strategy. In May 2022, Mengniu issued the goal of "two-carbon strategy", promising to achieve the goal of "carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050" for the whole industrial chain. In order to achieve the goal, Mengniu checked and calculated the carbon footprint of the representative products of each business form one by one in six business divisions, 63 factories and 12,000 data points in the past three years. At the same time, Mengniu has formulated strong measures to ensure the realization of the strategic goals of carbon emission reduction and carbon neutrality by gradually improving the system and mechanism, constantly optimizing the energy-saving technological transformation, moving towards low-carbon energy structure, significantly improving the green concept, and carrying out extensive international cooperation.

In terms of ecological environment protection, Mengniu has put forward the "One vision", "three paths", "five actions" and "eight commitments" for biodiversity protection, forming the "1-3-5-8" strategic system to carry out biodiversity protection in an all-round way. China Shengmu, the animal husbandry company of Mengniu, has created a three-dimensional ecosystem combining "trees, shrubs and herbage" to reduce land desertification. By the end of 2021, Mengniu has planted more than 97 million sand trees and transformed the desert area of 410,000 mu. Shengmu also implements a fully enclosed organic cycle of "pasture, pasture and factory" to increase soil aggregate structure and improve soil fertility. In 2021, 220,000 mu of organic fertilizer will be returned to the field, reducing the use of chemical fertilizer by about 7.5 million tons. At the same time, Mengniu actively promotes suppliers to conduct sustainable procurement certification, such as giving priority to the use of sterile recyclable packaging materials certified by FSC or SFI forest system, to enhance forest protection and reduce the risk of deforestation.

In terms of practicing social responsibility, Mengniu takes "China Dairy Industrial Park" as the platform, closely combines industrial revitalization, nutrition and rural revitalization, and contributes dairy industry strength to the national rural revitalization cause. Mengniu drives the digital transformation of the upstream dairy industry and improves the income of rural areas through the layout of planting and breeding industry clusters, financial empowerment, digital empowerment and other measures. At the same time, Mengniu carried out the "Nutrition Benefit project". From 2017 to 2021, Mengniu donated 60 million yuan to children in rural areas, benefiting more than 1 million students. Mengniu provides help and rescue to vulnerable groups and people in epidemic areas. Since the beginning of the epidemic, Mengniu has donated more than 760 million yuan of money and goods to provide nutrition support for frontline personnel in the fight against the epidemic. In 2021, Mengniu donated 3.80 tons of products to vulnerable people such as elderly people in nursing homes and sanitation workers.

It is understood that Mengniu's work achievements in ESG have been recognized by domestic and foreign institutions for many times. Not long ago, the Mengniu dual-carbon case was included in the China Corporate Climate Action (CCCA) 2022 Corporate Climate Action Case Collection; Mengniu has ranked first in the CSR Development Index of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences for three consecutive years. This year, Mengniu's MSCI ESG rating jumped from BBB to A, the highest rating in China's dairy sector as well as its food sector.

The honor of being selected in the case set of "Sustainable Industrial Development Action in China" of APEC is a reconfirmation of the work of Mengniu, and also an incentive and spur to Mengniu. In the future, Mengniu will continue to follow the principles and standards of sustainable development, pay attention to climate change, protect animal diversity, practice social responsibilities, and work together to "protect the common health of human beings and the earth". 此次蒙牛入选案例集的“可持续中国产业发展行动”，是由亚太经合组织中国工商理事会和国家发展和改革委员会国际合作中心联合发起，旨在聚焦绿色增长与数字经济，在全球视野下挖掘以科技创新为驱动的产业最 佳实践，提炼和分享可持续发展中国模式，探索经济绿色复苏与增长的有效路径。在案例评选时，凭借多年来在ESG的深耕细作，蒙牛在可持续发展上的贡献和成就，获得了有关专家和学者高度认可。

在应对气候变化方面，蒙牛践行双碳战略。 2022年5月，蒙牛发布“双碳战略”目标，承诺“ 2030年碳达峰、 2050年碳中和”全产业链碳中和目标，为了达成目标，蒙牛针对6大事业部、63个工厂、历史三年12，000个数据点逐一核查，对旗下各业态代表性产品碳足迹进行盘查测算。同时蒙牛制定了强有力的措施，蒙牛通过逐步完善体制机制、不断优化节能技改、趋于低碳能源结构、显著提升绿色理念、开展广泛国际合作，保障碳减排、碳中和战略目标的实现。

在保护生态环境方面，蒙牛提出保护生物多样性的“一个愿景”“三大路径”“五项行动”和“八大承诺”，形成“1-3-5-8”战略体系，全面开展生物多样性保护工作。蒙牛旗下牧业公司中国圣牧，打造“乔木、灌木、牧草”结合的立体生态系统，减少土地沙化，截止2021年底，蒙牛种植沙生9，700多万棵，改造沙漠面积41万亩。圣牧还贯彻“草场-牧场-工厂”全封闭式有机循环，增加土壤团粒结构，提高土壤肥力，2021年，实现有机肥料还田22万亩，约减少750万吨化肥使用量。同时，蒙牛积极推动供应商进行可持续采购认证，如优先用通过FSC或SFI森林体系认证的无菌可回收包材，加强森林保护和减少毁林风险。

在践行社会责任方面，蒙牛以打造“中国乳业产业园”为平台，将产业振兴、营养普惠与乡村振兴紧密结合，为国家乡村振兴事业贡献乳业力量。蒙牛通过布局种养加产业集群、金融赋能、数字化赋能等措施，带动乳业上游产业数字化转型，提高乡村地区收入。同时蒙牛开展“营养普惠工程”， 2017年至2021年，蒙牛为乡村地区儿童累计捐赠6000万元，受益学生超过100万人。蒙牛向弱势群体、疫区群众提供帮助和救援，从疫情以来，蒙牛累计捐赠超7.6亿元款物，为各地抗疫一线人员提供营养支持， 2021年，蒙牛捐赠3.80吨产品，给养老院老人、环卫工人等弱势人群。

据了解，蒙牛在ESG方面的工作成就，已多次获得国内外机构的认可。不久前，蒙牛双碳案例还入选了中国企业气候行动（CCCA）《 2022 企业气候行动案例集》；蒙牛已连续3年斩获中国社科院企业社会责任发展指数乳业之首；今年，蒙牛MSCI ESG评级从BBB级跃升至A级，这不仅是中国乳业、也是中国食品行业领域的最高评级。
