Tencent shows innovative solutions to drive the low-carbon transition and foster climate change awareness
The 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) concluded today in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. During the conference, Tencent's new generation of low-carbon technologies attracted the attention of participants. These solutions include zero-energy radiant refrigeration for glacier protection, Asia's first carbon dioxide mineralisation and storage project, and water saving and drought-resistant rice (WDR). The representatives of Tencent shared the positive progress and practical exploration of Tencent in promoting social innovation incubation solutions, guiding the public to live a green lifestyle, and helping the low-carbon transformation of the real economy.
Explore innovative technologies for carbon reduction
In order to promote the whole society to achieve the vision of carbon neutrality, Tencent continues to explore new solutions at the level of social innovation, and actively research cutting-edge low-carbon technologies. Tencent representatives and participants had an in-depth discussion on how to achieve carbon neutrality and shared Tencent's latest progress and solutions in this field.
At a side event on Wednesday, Xu Hao, vice president of Sustainable Social Value at Tencent and head of its Carbon Neutral Lab, presented Asia's first carbon dioxide mineralisation demonstration project, which Tencent is collaborating with Icelandic carbon sequestration company Carbfix.
Tencent is also working with university research teams to develop zero-energy radiant refrigeration products, which cool objects by radiating heat into outer space, with the dual value of carbon reduction and climate adaptation. The technique is so effective at protecting glaciers that it is currently being trialled on a small scale at Dagu Glacier in Sichuan province.

Climate change threatens global food security by increasing the frequency of extreme weather and affecting crop yields. To address this challenge, Tencent is working with partners to promote a new type of water-saving and drought-resistant rice. Specifically, the project will evaluate the greenhouse gas reduction potential of water - and drought-resistant rice to develop carbon assets that will increase returns per acre of rice. Tencent will also develop interactive apps for individual farmers to lower the technical threshold for water-saving and drought-resistant rice cultivation.
In addition, Tencent actively promotes nature-based solutions (NBS), which make use of the ecosystem's own power to restore the ecology, which is an important tool to mitigate climate change. In the field of Marine carbon sinks, Tencent works with partners to restore seagrass beds and salt marsh ecosystems in pilot areas. In the area of forestry carbon sequestration, Tencent is developing algorithms for accounting forestry carbon sequestration to reduce monitoring and verification costs.
Technology convergence promotes low-carbon transition
At the conference, Tencent introduced two smart energy products -- "Tencent EnerLink" and "Tencent EnerTwin" -- to help enterprises save energy. Based on the technical capabilities of these products in cloud computing, big data and the Internet of Things, companies can operate digitally and monitor and manage energy use more efficiently. Tencent Cloud and Ganghua Energy Investment Co., LTD have jointly created a digital platform that can achieve efficient management of carbon emissions and energy, and is expected to reduce hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon emissions every year when it is put into use.
In China, many companies and individuals are participating and proposing innovative solutions to climate change. Tencent will create an online low-carbon innovation community "Carbon LIVE" to connect innovators with resource-related parties, build a library of technology and insight tools, and accelerate the implementation of climate solutions.

为了促进全社会实现碳中和愿景,腾讯在社会创新层面持续探索全新解决方案,积极研究前沿低碳技术。腾讯代表与参会各方就如何实现碳中和进行了深入讨论,并分享了腾讯在该领域的最新进展及解决方案。
在本周三举办的边会中,腾讯可持续社会价值副总裁、腾讯碳中和实验室负责人许浩展示了亚洲首个二氧化碳矿化封存示范项目,该项目由腾讯与冰岛碳封存公司Carbfix合作建设。
腾讯还与高校科研团队合作,开发零能耗辐射制冷产品,其原理是通过向外太空辐射热量来冷却物体,具有减碳与气候适应双重价值。该技术对保护冰川极为有效,目前正在四川省达古冰川进行小规模试验。

此外,腾讯积极促成基于自然的解决方案(NBS),利用生态系统自身的力量修复生态,是缓解气候变化的重要工具。在海洋碳汇领域,腾讯与合作伙伴在试点地区恢复海草床和盐沼生态系统。在林业碳汇领域,腾讯正在开发用于核算林业碳汇的算法,以降低监测和核查成本。

会上,腾讯介绍了“能源连接器(Tencent EnerLink)”和“能源数字孪生(Tencent EnerTwin)”两款智慧能源产品,帮助企业节能。基于这些产品在云计算、大数据和物联网等方面的技术能力,企业能够实现数字化运营,更加高效地监测和管理能源使用情况。腾讯云与港华能源投资有限公司联合打造了一个数字平台,可以实现高效管理碳排放和能源,投入使用后每年预计可减少数十万吨碳排放。
在中国,众多企业及个人参与和提出了气候变化的创新方案。腾讯将创建在线低碳创新社区“碳 LIVE”,连接创新者与资源相关方,建立技术与洞察工具库,加快气候解决方案的落地实施。
