On November 18, 2020, GEM (Wuhan) Urban Mineral Recycling Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd. ’s declared project of "Innovative Model of Urban Waste Battery Recycling" won the "Paulson Sustainable Development Award-Green Innovation Category" (hereinafter referred to as "Paulson Award") in 2020. At the meeting, Secretary-General Yu Jiang of the Paulson Foundation presented the annual award trophy to Professor Xu Kaihua, chairman of GEM. He said that GEM's "Innovative Model of Urban Waste Battery Recycling" project has won unanimous praise from Chinese and foreign judges, and the recycling model of urban solid waste-waste batteries proposed by the project is highly innovative and replicable. Sustainable development has a long way to go, and the "Paulson Award" encourages more market solutions to contribute to the green development of China and even the world.

With the vigorous development of new energy vehicles in China and even in the world, the environmental and resource utilization problems caused by the retired power batteries of new energy vehicles will become increasingly prominent. This project starts from the recycling of waste dry batteries, deeply considers the recycling and recycling of batteries, gives full play to the advantages of technological innovation, market and industry of enterprises, and finds a way of recycling for waste batteries. Chairman Xu Kaihua expressed his joy at winning the award and expressed his heartfelt thanks to Mr. Paulson and the Organizing Committee of the Paulson Award.
