Recently, JinkoSolar, a globally innovative photovoltaic and energy storage company, successfully completed the target verification of the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), becoming the first global photovoltaic group to simultaneously complete the verification of all SBTi targets (short-term, long-term, net-zero). Additionally, JinkoSolar is the second company in mainland China and the third in the global semiconductor industry to complete the verification of all SBTi targets.
The SBTi is a global initiative led by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to encourage companies to establish science-based carbon targets. Its aim is to help companies set greenhouse gas reduction targets that align with climate science and the requirements of the Paris Agreement. As global carbon neutrality trends continue, participating in and setting science-based carbon targets has become a new business standard, reflecting a company's competitiveness and responsibility in the fields of sustainable development and ESG. Currently, over 7,000 companies worldwide have joined the Science-Based Targets initiative, including Tesla, Apple, BASF, Lenovo, Tencent, and others.
JinkoSolar announced its participation in the RE100 green initiative at the end of 2019. By the end of 2021, JinkoSolar Co., Ltd. announced its participation in the SBTi. In the first half of 2023, JinkoSolar Co., Ltd. released its 2022 ESG report, in which it first proposed its own science-based carbon reduction targets. Through continuously innovative photovoltaic technology and reliable photovoltaic products, JinkoSolar provides clean, safe, affordable, and renewable photovoltaic power to the world, offering an economic, green, and feasible solution to global climate change. As of the fourth quarter of 2023, JinkoSolar became the first photovoltaic enterprise with a component shipment volume exceeding 200 gigawatts. According to IHS estimates, this means that for every 8 components globally, 1 comes from JinkoSolar, and for every 8 kilograms of photovoltaic product, 1 kilogram of carbon reduction is attributed to JinkoSolar.
The verification of carbon reduction targets through SBTi not only represents JinkoSolar's ambition in addressing climate change but also provides clear action guidelines for full value chain emissions reduction. JinkoSolar will fully participate in global energy transformation and contribute to building a greener and more sustainable future.
*SBTi is scheduled to announce JinkoSolar Co., Ltd.'s approved net-zero emission target on its website on January 25, 2024.
