Carbon 12 Quarter, as the pioneering start-up zone of the Yangtze River Delta (Kunshan) International Low-Carbon Industrial Innovation Park, is located near the Zhoushi Middle Ring Interchange. It covers an area of 175 mu (approximately 11.67 hectares), with a built-up area of about 106,000 square meters, and is an asset of the Kunshan Northern New City Group Co., Ltd.

12坊作为长三角(昆山)国际低碳产业创新园区的先行启动区,位于周市中环立交附近,占地175亩,已建建筑面积约10.6万平方米,系昆山北部新城集团有限公司资产。

The project is constructed in two phases. The first phase primarily involved the renovation of three existing buildings: the Innovation Center and the Service Center, which officially opened on December 12, 2024. The Innovation Center is a comprehensive complex integrating low-carbon science popularization and exhibition, R&D office space, conference activities, and commercial support facilities. It is the first zero-carbon building project in the Yangtze River Delta region involving renovation, and has been recognized as a science and technology demonstration project under the National Key R&D Program during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.

The Service Center mainly provides commercial services and sci-tech innovation incubation support, enriching the park's facility while offering backing for start-up tech companies and entrepreneurs. The second phase will involve high-standard construction of low-carbon industrial carriers in accordance with industrial land requirements, combining with the first phase's service offerings to create a "green manufacturing+" ecosystem that integrates all segments of the industrial chain.

To multi-dimensionally reduce overall energy consumption and achieve low-carbon operation, Carbon 12 Quarter employs 12 energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies, including maximized utilization of photovoltaic power generation and hydrogen fuel cell combined heat and power (CHP), along with one integrated energy management platform. It has been successfully included in the National Development and Reform Commission's list of green and low-carbon advanced technology demonstration projects.

为多维度降低整体能耗,实现低碳运营,碳12坊采用光伏产能最大化利用、氢燃料电池热电联供等12项节能降碳技术,以及1个能源综合管理平台,20254月被评选为国家级绿色低碳先进技术示范项目。

Efforts are underway to subsequently build the Innovation Center into a platinum-level healthy building and achieve certifications such as LEED Platinum, BREEAM Outstanding, and China's Three-Star Green Building certification. The Service Center is also aiming for Three-Star Green Building certification.

后续力争将创新中心创成铂金级健康建筑,完成LEED铂金、Breeam优秀、国内绿色建筑三星等认证,服务中心完成绿建三星认证。

1. Carbon 12 Quarter comprehensively utilizes 12 energy-saving technologies, including the maximized application of photovoltaic technology and PV DC microgrids. Relying on an integrated smart operation and maintenance management system, it achieves digital management and dispatch of multiple energy sources, reducing overall energy consumption across multiple dimensions. The annual energy usage has decreased from 8.6 million kWh in similar parks to 3.8 million kWh, with green energy accounting for over 60%.

2. The Phase I photovoltaic system has already been connected to the grid for power generation, producing an average of 2.1 million kWh annually and saving 1.7 million kWh of electricity, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 2,263 tons—equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 1,500 households.

3. The Low-Carbon Technology Exhibition Hall primarily showcases low-carbon policies, low-carbon industries, and application demonstration scenarios. It also includes a popular science interactive exhibition area for teenagers, featuring models, videos, interactive projection animations, installations, and virtual reality (VR) to facilitate engagement.

低碳科技展厅展陈低碳政策、低碳产业及应用示范场景等内容,设有面向青少年的科普互动展区,通过模型、视频、动画互动投影与装置、虚拟现实(VR)等形式呈现。

4. Since its opening in December 2024, the exhibition hall has collaborated with government and enterprise entities from various provinces and cities to organize 200 events, including low-carbon technology popularization sessions, Environment Day activities, sustainable investment salons, and industrial and commercial solar storage & virtual power plant ecosystem conferences. These activities have reached over 6,032 participants for science education and awareness.

1. Deep Involvement in the Construction Phase: Laying a Solid Foundation for Low-Carbon Operations. During the construction of Carbon 12 Quarter, CWVS’s service team deeply participated in the installation and debugging of low-carbon facilities and equipment, assisting the client in supervising and inspecting construction progress to ensure the full application of 12 energy-saving and carbon reduction technologies.

2. Simultaneously, from the perspective of low-carbon operational management, the team provided multiple adjustment suggestions in areas such as weak current systems, intelligentization, and spatial planning, completing the sorting of spatial information, computer room setup, and equipment inventories.

3. As the core of energy management, the high-efficiency computer room saw the team combine low-carbon operational experience with on-site equipment characteristics to complete the design and verification of working condition valve switching and tailor specialized maintenance plans, ensuring the effective implementation of low-carbon operation and maintenance strategies.

4. Tackling Operational Challenges: Smart Empowerment for a Low-Carbon Benchmark. In the entire life-cycle of a building, the operational phase accounts for nearly half of its carbon emissions. Faced with operational challenges such as numerous specialized equipment, complex formats, and multi-phase delivery at Carbon 12 Quarter, CWVS’s energy team conducted repeated site surveys to create a targeted smart low-carbon operational plan.

Dynamically coordinating equipment operating status through energy and carbon analysis to balance the optimal efficiency of various systems; strengthening inspections of key energy operation and maintenance points; and formulating comprehensive fire protection and safety emergency plans to achieve carbon reduction from every detail.

6. Additionally, the high-end concierge team deeply studied green concepts and industry knowledge, providing high-quality support for explanations in the energy-saving technology exhibition hall, government and corporate visits, and large conference insurance. To date, they have completed 200 receptions and popular science explanations for 6,032 visitors, helping Carbon 12 Quarter build its external low-carbon image.
