2021, Vanke Property has collaborated with Qingdao Niwo Chuangyi Social Work
Service Center to launch kitchen waste and garden waste composting practices at
Chengyang Meigui Li Residential Community. The cooperative promotion was
initiated in 2023, with Phase I of the project completed between 2024 and 2025,
and Phase II ongoing from 2025 to 2026.

Core Project
Content: Vanke Property, in partnership with Qingdao Niwo Chuangyi Social Work
Service Center, promotes on-site composting of organic waste under the
"(1+1)×N" model (1 professional organization + 1 Vanke Chengyang
Diecheng + N residential communities). During Phase I, a special collaboration
team was established to empower property staff, enabling the operation of composting
systems in 11 communities. In Phase II, composting serves as a key driver for
service upgrading: bottlenecks were addressed to expand coverage to 18
communities, while the "Green Diecheng Composting Toolkit Practical
Manual" and supporting videos were developed, and collaboration among
families, schools, and communities was further strengthened.

Project
Achievements Summary: In Phase I, a total of 2,320 kg of kitchen waste and
290.5 m³ of garden waste were processed, achieving a carbon reduction of
22,975.821 kg CO₂_eq, cost savings of RMB 45,000, and 26.6 tons of
finished fertilizer produced. Three community composting gardens were built,
and the project received coverage from CCTV. For Phase II, the goal is to cover
18 communities, with plans to process no less than 2,000 kg of kitchen waste
and 450 m³ of garden waste, and increase composting efficiency by 50%. A
sustainable model featuring "standardized technology, independent
operation and maintenance, and regular participation" will be created,
serving as a demonstration for waste management in northern communities and ESG
practices in the property management industry.

1. Carbon
Reduction: Carbon reduction is achieved through three pathways: "avoiding
emissions from incineration and landfilling, soil carbon sequestration, and
reducing transportation-related emissions". The total carbon reduction is
approximately 22.9 tons of CO₂_eq (equivalent to the annual carbon
sequestration of 1,270 trees), verified by on-site monitoring from the Research
Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Compared
with incineration, composting reduces carbon by 0.249 tCO₂e per ton, and one ton of compost bin
can reduce emissions by 0.249 tons of CO₂e.

The project has been implemented in 10 communities under Chengyang Diecheng and
1 community under Licang Diecheng. It has realized on-site composting of over
2,320 kg of kitchen waste and 290.5 m³ of garden waste, reducing garbage
transportation volume by nearly 300 m³ and producing approximately 26.6 tons of
finished fertilizer.

mechanism, residents can redeem daily life services with carbon credits,
forming a positive cycle of "emission reduction - benefit -
re-participation".

supported".

experience has been included in Wanyun's ESG "China Property Dual Carbon

Project Implementation

1. Implementation Plan & Process: To address the pain points of surging
community organic waste, high off-site transportation costs, and low resident
participation, the project was advanced under the "(1+1)×N" model
(Qingdao Niwo Chuangyi Social Work Organization + Vanke Chengyang Diecheng × N
communities). From 2024 to 2025, composting was implemented in 11 communities
(10 in Chengyang and 1 in Licang): first, site selection, research, and plan
approval were conducted, with "kitchen waste + garden waste
composting" piloted in Meigui Li Community and other communities advancing
as needed.

2. A special team
consisting of property operation staff, social work enablers, and university
supporters was established to integrate composting into property KPIs and
management processes. Qingdao Agricultural University was invited to conduct
quality testing, and the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences,
Chinese Academy of Sciences, monitored carbon reduction effects.

3. Challenges
& Support - Overcoming Challenges: In the early stage, the project faced

composting facilities were dismantled. The project team invited university
experts to conduct on-site assessments, adopted the strategy of "visual
landscape + results demonstration area" to landscape the composting area
and open it for popular science, increasing satisfaction to 90% within one
month.

resource recycling, reduces waste transportation volume by nearly 300 m³,
improves the community environment, and forms a good atmosphere of low-carbon
co-governance.
